Overview

Nestled in the heart of Connell, Washington, Mei Ling Inn Chinese Thai & American Restaurant offers a unique blend of Asian and American flavors that satisfy a broad range of palates. Located at 627 S Columbia Ave, this family-run establishment specializes in authentic Chinese and Thai dishes with a home-cooked touch, along with familiar American favorites. It’s the kind of place that invites both locals and travelers to enjoy hearty meals in a no-frills, welcoming environment.

The menu features standout items such as Pork Fried Rice, Pad Thai with Shrimp, and the intriguing Shrimp Foo Young. These dishes exemplify the kitchen’s commitment to simplicity and freshness, steering away from overly salty or greasy preparations common in many takeout spots. The noodles, especially the Siam Chow Mein, carry a delightful wok hay flavor, enhanced by vibrant, well-balanced sauces—the sweet and sour and almond chicken sauces are thinner than typical versions, providing a lighter experience without compromising taste.

Mei Ling Inn operates primarily as a takeout restaurant, with a modest waiting area at the entrance. While the old dining room remains closed off, resulting in no restroom facilities, the focus on food quality and generous portions makes up for the limited dining space. This setup makes the restaurant ideal for visitors passing through Central Washington who seek a quick, satisfying meal or locals looking for substantial lunch specials.

Service at Mei Ling Inn is both prompt and personable. Customers like Lisa Greer have noted the owner’s attentiveness and thorough explanations of menu items, creating a warm and memorable experience. Another reviewer praised the authenticity and freshness of the dishes, highlighting the non-heavy feeling after eating, which is often a rarity in Chinese and Thai takeout.

While some might miss a full-service dining ambiance, Mei Ling Inn appeals strongly to those who appreciate homemade flavors and value freshness over flash. Its menu bridges cultures with carefully prepared fried rice varieties, traditional Thai noodles, and comforting American dishes, making it a versatile choice in an unexpected spot. This restaurant is a gem for food enthusiasts who enjoy robust flavors served with genuine hospitality, definitely worth a stop when exploring this quiet part of Central Washington.

Food was delicious and alot of it! The owner was very nice and super thorough in describing menu items and making sure that we had everything we wanted and needed for a wonderful lunch while out of town , working. Service was quick, too. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend for everyone to eat here , if they happen to pass by this out of the way town , in Central Washington!

This place is absolutely amazing. I am surprised by the negative 3-4 reviews and felt that Mei Ling Inn Chinese Thai and American Restaurant was a 5 star and was really great. I would recommend this place.

Stopped on our through town. They only serve take out and there is a small waiting area in the entrance. The old dining room is blocked off and full of boxes and kids things. There are no restrooms for customers. The portions are large and the prices reasonable. The food tasted more homemade than most Chinese restaurants - not as salty or greasy. As others mentioned, the sweet and sour sauce is thin, as is the almond chicken sauce. The pork did appear to be chopped up and formed into meatball type shapes before battering and frying. But, the result was tender and delicious! The chop suey and fried rice were very mildly flavored, almost bland, but very fresh tasting. The chown mein noodles had a good wok hay flavor. Overall, the food was satisfying and didn't leave a heavy feeling after eating. You might be disappointed if you try to compare to offerings in big cities, but it's a nice, family run small business that was doing a steady business on a Tuesday night.

Best Thai cuisine in the country! If you haven't been to Mei Lings I have no clue what you're doing with your life, you're probably going to the subway next to Mei Lings which would be a big mistake! Why spend $5.00 plus dollars when your money can go into a hot authentic thai meal which has a great combination of pork, chicken, amazing rice and noodles. Plus don't get me started on the great sauces! And if you give this place a bad review shame on you and curse your family for generations to come and natural selection will take it's course on you and those you love.Would eat here everyday if only I lived in town. Huge fan by the way Mei Lings cook/owner.

Love Mei Lings!! It's clean and the staff is always friendly. The food isn't too greasy or heavy. I especially like their uncomplicated lunch buffet. It's quick and the food is always hot. They don't over stock the buffet but instead keep smaller fresh batches coming out. I also enjoy their regular menu in the evening. The cooks always try to accommodate requests and substitutions.

Rare is the review from me that is a take-out experience, but these nice folks are still stuck in scamdemic mode, like it's 2020. Their choice, so I will just shake my head and press on. Regardless, their Chin-Amer fare is absolutely fantastic. One look at their fried proteins will tell the tale. Those are hand-made on the spot, Cochise. Yang Tze Pork had great char sui flavor, and the sides were robust and delicious. We ordered from their 'family style' menu, and for $17 per, it was one helluva lot of food. Wifey kept trying to order some other items, and I had to tell her we were already going to get pounded with the amount of food we had comin'. The leftovers in my fridge will testify to that little factoid. This little town in the middle of nowhere is quite fortunate to have this family to order from...
